Vortex State in High-Tc Superconductors (2002-now)

The competing interactions between vortices in type-II superconductors and their surroundings provide rich physics.

vdsim

The simulation software suite "vdsim" can compute the behaviour of vortices (assuming the vortices are massless particles moving in a viscous environment). Here is a selection of results that are related to "vdsim":

  • Introductory slides on 2d-simulations of vortex systems (introduction)
  • the dynamic phase diagram of the 2d system (slide, animations, PRB 64 064505, 2001) )
  • the moving glass phase (animations)
  • the critical transverse force (PRB 67 174508, 2001)
  • dealing with long-range forces (slides, JCompPhys 162 372, 2000)
  • 3d-simulations of layered materials using a mean-field approach ("substrate model")
  • Domain wall formation in periodic pinning arrays (PRL 90 237001, 2003, Physica C 404 50, 2004)
  • Metastable behavior of vortex matter (PRB 73 214521, 2006)
  • Apparent negative motion of vortex matter due to inhomogeneous pinning. (PRB, 75 224507, 2007)
  • Peak effect in the critical current of type II superconductors with strong magnetic vortex pinning (Phys Rev Lett 101, 147002 (2008), (Online: journal soton-eprints)
