How to configure Thunderbird (and other imap clients) for email at SouthamptonI got the following information from isolutions in Feb 2013, and they seem to work (at that moment): Please see below settings as requested. Thunderbird Incoming Mail Settings Click Tools then Account Settings. Choose Server Settings on the left hand side. Server name: imap.exchange.soton.ac.uk Port: 993 Username: Your username Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password Outgoing Mail Settings Click the Outgoing Server (SMTP), then select smtp.soton.ac.uk outgoing server and click Edit. In Settings the description box can be left blank, the Server Name should be smtp.soton.ac.uk and Port should be 25. In Security and Authentication tick the Use name and password box, and in the User Name box enter your username. Under Use secure connection select the Start TLS option (not TLS, if available). Authentication method: Normal password Click OK. Update September 2016 (thanks to Gary Downing): While the most of the details above appear to be correct, for Thunderbird, one needs to use NTLM as the authentication method for the outgoing server. Update September 2016 II (thanks to Pete Toshkov): Sorry for the second email, but I only realised now that configuring the authentication method for the outgoing server (SMTP) using NTLM (as per the September 2016 update) doesn't allow me to send emails. I have to use Normal authentication instead. |
